Stop 1: Fetish Market of Akodessewa

Start your day with a fascinating visit to the Fetish Market, one of the most unique cultural experiences in West Africa. This vibrant and authentic place offers a rare glimpse into the spiritual traditions and ancestral beliefs that continue to shape local life today. As you walk through the market, you will discover an extraordinary collection of talismans, medicinal plants, ceremonial objects, and sacred items used in Vodou practices and traditional rituals. Every object has its own meaning and story, reflecting centuries of history, spirituality, and cultural heritage..

Stop 2: T he Slave House of Agbodrafo

The house played an important role during the transatlantic slave trade, serving as a holding place where enslaved men, women, and children were kept before being forced onto ships bound for the Americas, especially the French colonies. Today, it stands as a museum and memorial dedicated to preserving the memory of those who endured this tragic period of history and honoring the resilience of their legacy.

Stop 3: Lac Togo

After visiting the Agbodrafo Slave House, continue your journey with a peaceful crossing of Lake Togo toward the historic town of Togoville — a place rich in culture, spirituality, and local traditions. As you leave the shore behind, the calm waters of Lake Togo open up before you, reflecting the warm African sun and creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. Traveling by traditional wooden canoe, guided by experienced local fishermen, you’ll experience the lake the same way generations of locals have for centuries. Enjoy the gentle breeze, admire the beautiful natural scenery, and take in the peaceful rhythm of life on the water. This scenic crossing is more than just transportation — it’s a moment to slow down, connect with nature, and fully immerse yourself in the authentic charm of southern Togo.

Stop 4: Notre Dame Du Lac Cathedral of Togo

As you step into Notre-Dame du Lac Cathedral, you are immediately greeted by its striking and majestic interior. The beautiful religious sculptures and architectural details create an atmosphere that is both impressive and deeply moving. Inside, a profound sense of peace and spirituality fills the space. It remains an important place of worship where the faithful gather for prayer, reflection, and religious ceremonies. The cathedral’s remarkable acoustics enhance the experience, adding a sense of calm and making it an ideal setting for quiet contemplation and inner reflection.

Stop 5: Stroll in Togoville

Continue your journey by visiting the famous Twin Tree, a remarkable natural site surrounded by local stories and cultural significance. This peaceful stop offers a unique moment to connect with nature while learning about the beliefs and traditions tied to this symbolic place. From there, head to a traditional Vodou convent, where you’ll have the opportunity to engage directly with local practitioners and deepen your understanding of Vodou culture. This is a rare chance to ask questions openly and gain authentic insights into practices that are often misunderstood. If you wish, you may also take part in a libation ceremony (on request), along with other meaningful cultural experiences that offer a respectful and immersive introduction to local spiritual traditions.

Stop 6: Pause - Lunch break at Miadjoé or at the Hotel du Lac

After a delicious lunch, continue your adventure with one of the most impressive natural highlights of the day: the meeting point where Lake Togo flows into the Atlantic Ocean. As you get closer, you’ll notice the landscape gradually changing. The calm, inland waters of the lake begin to merge with the powerful waves of the ocean, creating a striking contrast and a truly memorable natural spectacle. Take your time to enjoy the view and feel the energy of this unique place, where freshwater and saltwater meet in a delicate, ever-changing balance. It’s a beautiful moment to pause, observe, and appreciate the raw power and harmony of nature along Togo’s coastline.

Please note: lunch is not included.

Stop 7: Aneho

To conclude your tour, continue toward the estuary — a remarkable natural zone where the lagoon system meets the Atlantic Ocean. This dynamic environment is constantly shaped by the tides, creating a rich ecosystem where freshwater and saltwater blend. It is also an important area for local fishing communities, who have long adapted their way of life to the rhythms of the water.
Then, you will visit the sacred site linked to the internationally known “Epe-Ekpe” festival, an important cultural and spiritual event of the Guin people. The Guins, who settled in the lake region in 1663 after migrating from Ghana in the 17th century, continue to preserve this centuries-old tradition with great pride. At the heart of the celebration is the sacred stone known as “Kpessosso,” which plays a central role in the rituals marking the start of the Guin new year. The festival is a deeply symbolic moment of renewal, unity, and cultural identity, generally held in September each year, and occasionally in August. If you are visiting outside of the ceremony period, you may still explore the site (when accessible) and learn about the history and significance of this powerful tradition through local storytelling and interpretation.

After the visit, drive back to your hotel.
